Short answers to the questions people ask most about ReSkate. Each one links to the full guide on this site where the details live.
The basics
What is ReSkate? A free, open-source mod platform for skate., EA's free-to-play pre-alpha skating game. It adds offline play, community mods and custom maps, private multiplayer, and self-hosted dedicated servers. It went public in early October 2026 and grew a community of tens of thousands within two weeks. Start with the download guide to set it up.
Is ReSkate free? Yes. Platform, updates, and server builds are all free on GitHub, and skate. itself is free-to-play. Nobody legitimate sells ReSkate.
Where is the official download? The GitHub repository's Releases page, only. Portals repacking the launcher are the project's main safety hazard; the download page shows the exact clicks.
Compatibility and safety
Consoles or mobile? No. ReSkate is PC software: Windows for play, Linux for dedicated servers and Proton desktop play including Steam Deck. Sites advertising an Android or console version are pitching something that does not exist.
Is it safe? The program is clean and inspectable; the fakes are the problem. On bans, no public cases exist, but EA has taken no official position and its terms prohibit client mods, so we describe the risk honestly on the safety page rather than calling it zero.
Do I need Steam's version of skate.? Yes, and each ReSkate release targets a specific game build. After a game update, give the maintainers a day or two for the matching release; the updates page tracks versions.
Playing with mods and friends
Multiplayer? Quick lobbies from the Insert menu cover friend groups, and a dedicated server keeps a park online permanently. The one rule: match mod and map versions across the group, or sessions desync. The multiplayer guide explains the session types.
Mods and maps? Over 200 community maps shipped in the first weeks. Install means unzipping into the mods folder and toggling on in the Insert menu. The mods guide and maps guide cover finding, installing, and fixing them.
Something broke? The fix order that solves most cases: launch via the launcher, update everything, exclude antivirus, re-test mods one by one. Everything else is in the troubleshooting guide.
