What Is ReSkate? A Plain Introduction
ReSkate is a free open-source mod platform for skate. that adds offline play, custom maps, private lobbies and self-hosted servers. Here is what it does and how to start.
If you play skate., EA's free-to-play pre-alpha skating game, you have probably seen the word ReSkate by now. This post explains what it is in plain terms, why it got big fast, and where to start if you want to try it.
The short version
ReSkate is a community-built, open-source mod platform for skate. Install it and you get the things the pre-alpha does not offer: offline play, community mods and custom maps, private multiplayer lobbies, and dedicated servers you can host yourself. It went public in early October 2026, and within two weeks the project passed a thousand stars on GitHub and its Discord counted tens of thousands of members.
It costs nothing, it is developed in the open, and it is not an EA product. EA has not taken an official position on modding, which is worth understanding before you install; our safety page lays out both the malware question and the ban question honestly.
Why players want it
Three reasons come up again and again in the community. Offline play, because a live-service pre-alpha requires a connection and not everyone wants that. Custom maps, because the base parks are limited and community map makers shipped more than 200 parks in the first weeks. Private sessions, because skating with five friends in a passworded lobby beats public matchmaking for a crew.
The platform ships as a launcher that loads a runtime into the game. You download it from the official GitHub releases only, run the launcher instead of the Steam shortcut, and an in-game menu appears on the Insert key. That is the entire mental model.
Where to start on this site
- Download and install guide — five minutes from zero to a working install.
- Mods and custom maps — what to install once the base works.
- Multiplayer — lobbies, friends, and the mod-sync rules.
- Dedicated servers — if you want a park that stays online.
- Troubleshooting — for the day something stops working, because with a pre-alpha game that day comes.
One habit worth forming now: after any skate. update, update ReSkate before troubleshooting. Version mismatch imitates every other bug. The updates page tracks the current release, which today is v2.0.7.
